Joshua Schriftman writes and teaches writing classes, but he also has experience in marketing, construction, retail, sushi, and travel. Currently he teaches undergraduate courses in composition and creative writing for the University of Miami. His past courses have covered literary theory, business writing, and memoir and travel writing; his past students have ranged from gifted third graders to union electricians to retired folks. He earned his MA in literature from Virginia Tech and his MFA in creative nonfiction from the University of Pittsburgh. His fiction and essays have appeared in Flywheel Magazine, The Pinch, and The Ninth Letter. He also tutors at the University of Miami’s Writing Center, and through the graces of Exchange for Change and UM’s Department of English, he runs writing exchanges that bring diverse student communities together.
