Wendy Hinshaw is an Associate Professor and Director of Writing Programs in the English Department at Florida Atlantic University. Her teaching and research integrate community engagement, public rhetoric and social justice, and investigates how prisoner art and writing shapes and is shaped by the historical, institutional and cultural contexts in which it circulates. She has collaborated with Kathie Klarreich to develop best practices for facilitating writing partnerships between prison and university classrooms, and their work appears in Women, Writing and Prison (Rowman & Littlefield 2014), and she co-edited a special issue on Prison Writing, Literacies and Communities in the journal Reflections (2019). Her work also appears in the collections Practicing Research in Writing Studies and Silence and Listening as Rhetorical Acts, and in journals including Feminist Formations, JAC, and Transformations. Her current research focuses on removing barriers to (higher) education for justice-impacted people, as well as the future of (teaching) writing in the age of generative AI.
