Spring 2026 Enrollment: A Semester of Growth, Creativity, and Connection

Spring 2026 is shaping up to be one of Exchange for Change’s most vibrant semesters yet. Across four institutions, hundreds of students are showing up with curiosity, commitment, and courage, ready to imagine new possibilities for themselves and their communities.

This semester, 354 students enrolled in 24 classes that span creative writing, leadership, mindfulness, critical thinking, theater, and more. Every one of our students are dedicating their time to grow and tell stories that reach far beyond their sentences.

Everglades Correctional Institution is starting off the semester with nine classes, including a variety of topics such as Poetry Workshop, Trauma Toolbox, and Our Technological Future. Similarly, Homestead Correctional Institution is hosting 13 classes, such as Critical Thinking, Mock Trial, and Theater in Spanish. Lowell Correctional Institution is teaching creative writing and book discussion. Finally, Avon Park Correctional Institution is hosting poetry, creative writing, free-form writing and spoken word.

  • Homestead Correctional Institution: 182 students

  • Everglades Correctional Institution:  152 students

  • Avon Park Correctional Institution:    40  students

  • Lowell Correctional Institution:          30 students

Each institution also has a Student Leadership Council that represents their peers,  reinforcing our commitment to student voice, peer leadership, and shared ownership of learning spaces.

Behind every enrollment is a student choosing to participate in a community that promotes the voices of everyone inside prisons, providing a glimpse into their life and the ability to engage with the outside world once more, either through their stories, actions, or words.

We are deeply grateful to our facilitators, inside partners, supporters, and most importantly our students, whose commitment makes this work meaningful. We look forward to the conversations and creativity that will continue to emerge within these classrooms.

Here’s to a powerful Spring 2026.
